We're actually using Pinterest to plan a new house thanks to you.

I'm glad that my agony was shared and others have had similar experiences. Let's catch up again soon!

Re: Five Ways to Harness The Power of Community

Great presentation, Chris! Glad I was there to hear it. I'm still laughing at your slogan story--you perfectly captured a moment we could all somehow relate to...

Re: Control your social media with if / then statements

I was just looking into this a week or so ago! Good to know it's useful....I'll take another look at it!

Re: How to transition to a new job in 5 easy steps

Agreed. Repeatedly saying "In my last job, we did this" isn't a great thing. The contributions do need to be made in the right spots, but there are probably tasks or projects where you can make an immediate contribution based on your prior experience.

eg. I'm working on a blog plan based on prior experience while I'm learning more about the industry and products.

Re: How to transition to a new job in 5 easy steps

Good advice Chris. I would only add that you need to be cautious making immediate contributions. We are probably all aware of the "new guy syndrome" where someone wants to contribute too much too soon and in the process steps on toes, makes uneducated contributions, and runs roughshod over ingrained culture and processes. In doing so they can create ill will and distrust. I've seen it time and time again where the "new guy" is so eager to show his prowess he comes off as a pushy, know-it-all. If your coming in at a Senior level that might work (and be expected) but if your rank and file it could blow up in your face.

Be a sponge, do your homework, understand the culture and pick your spots to contribute while you settle in.

Re: After several great years at Phonebooth, I’m saying goodbye

Thanks Viji!
